Juba inaugurates the training hub ‘Juba Academy’ on its 70th anniversary
Hands, wrists or arms have been injured in 45,570 accidents at work registered in the first four months of this year, according to data from the Ministry of Labour. In fact, the upper limbs are one of the parts of the human body that suffer most accidents at work for reasons as diverse as imprudence, incorrect use of protective equipment, the poor state of machinery or lack of knowledge.
Juba has been working for 70 years to address this reality by identifying problems, understanding challenges and developing innovative solutions in work gloves. The company based in Santo Domingo de la Calzada (La Rioja) has just inaugurated ‘Juba Academy’, a training hub to share its extensive experience in work protection, further research into occupational risk prevention and find new solutions to minimise potential hazards.
As a leader in the Spanish and Portuguese markets, with over 500 references of safety gloves, an extensive workwear catalogue and presence in over 40 countries, Juba seeks to make life easier for professionals. Thanks to the ‘Juba Academy’ the company reinforces its commitment to put research and innovation in the prevention of hazards at work at the core of its strategy.
The space will offer seminars to share all the knowledge acquired by Juba's team of professionals in its 70 years of existence. This transfer of knowledge is one of the company's foundations, which it already carries out for its customers and/or distributors. "Knowledge is an integral part of our concept of safety, we believe it is an essential tool to reduce risks in the workplace and, therefore, possible injuries", said Rebeca Moneo, manager of the company. "Choosing the best glove to work with will depend on many factors, especially the professional sector, the work environment or the substances to be handled, among other parameters", she says.
The opening ceremony was attended by the President of the Government of La Rioja together with other authorities, representatives of different organisations and business associations, as well as the Barrios family, founders of the company. "Juba is a story of hard work, success, evolution and constant innovation. Its business trajectory is exemplary, going from a family, artisan and local business to a global company, competitive at international level", he pointed out. In this sense, Capellán has valued very positively that "always from Santo Domingo de la Calzada, it has been able to continue evolving, generating brand, and creating employment and wealth in the territory", has assured the president of La Rioja, Mr. Gonzalo Capellán.
Finally, Juan Pedro Barrios, former owner and manager of the company from 1992 to 2019 and current Bunzl advisor, emphasised during the event that "the evolution of Juba has been closely linked to the human quality of the different families who have worked in the company. Juba's progress cannot be measured only in figures or material achievements; it is also reflected in the relationships we have built and the talent we have cultivated. We have been privileged to have exceptional people who, generation after generation, have brought their dedication, passion and skills to the company", he said.
