UPF treatment is a process used to improve the ability of fabrics to protect the skin from UV rays and thus reduce human skin exposure to ultraviolet radiation. This treatment helps prevent harmful effects of radiation, such as sunburn, premature skin ageing or skin cancer.
This treatment is done by applying a technical coating on the fabric, which acts as a filter for UV radiation and increase its ability to block the rays. The products used in UPF treatment are able to absorb and dissipate UV radiation, reducing its penetration into the fabric and skin.
The UPF treatment is particularly important for clothes worn outdoors, as these garments are constantly exposed to UV rays from the sun. Such as road work, construction workers, farmers, sweepers, among others.
Fabrics treated with UPF are evaluated by laboratory tests that measure their ability to block UV radiation. The result is expressed in terms of Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF), which indicates the amount of UV radiation a fabric is able to block. The higher the UPF, the greater the fabric's ability to block UV radiation and protect the skin.

These fabrics have been subjected to UPF treatment having a classification number indicating their protective capacity. A fabric with a UPF of 50+ is capable of blocking more than 98% of UV rays, while a fabric with a UPF of 30 will block 96.7% and a UPF of 15 will block about 93.3% of UV rays.
In short, UPF treatment in fabrics is an important process to improve the fabric's ability to protect and block the skin's UV rays, to help prevent harmful effects from radiation.
