The term 'gauge' (or GG) when referring to work gloves is used to measure the thickness of the knitted fabrics used in manufacturing. It refers to the number of stitches in an inch (25.4 mm). In a knitting machine, this is calculated by counting the number of needles in several inches and dividing the number of inches by the width of the sample. The higher the gauge, the greater touch provided by the work glove. After many years of success, our G600, G630, G630W, G636 and G901 work gloves, suitable for use with chemical products, have recently also been certified for food use. These work gloves have been certified to handle food such as drinks, cereals, cakes, biscuits, pastries, bread, chocolates, vegetables (whole, fresh, refrigerated or unpeeled), fats, oils, animal products, eggs, dairy products and a wide variety of other products. These products, recently certified for food use, correspond to the same glove model in different widths (see table). The G901 is the only shoulder-length glove in our catalogue certified for food use. It has a completely sealed sleeve fitted over the whole surface area and covered with the same nitrile. On the other hand, although the G630W glove does not meet the EN511 cold standard, it has a polyester lining, perfect for handling food in cold atmospheres, cold chambers and outdoors.

PVC is a polymer obtained from two natural primary materials: sodium chloride and petroleum. Due to its characteristics, this material is widely used in manufacturing work gloves. Main features: - Flexible even at -20C (68F) - High chemical resistance (as long as the glove is manufactured especially for this purpose) Uses: - Construction - Handling equipment and abrasive materials covered in water, oil or grease. - Plumbing - Cleaning services - Public works Type of finishes: 1. HPT Finish HPT technology (Hydropellent Technology™) repels liquids effectively in moderate situations. It also offers good flexibility, touch and comfort for handling tools and objects. Example: 5130 HCW ICE BLUE. Nylon® seamless gloves with terry-loop lining and PVC coating on the palm and half-back of the hand with HPT treatment. 2. Double coating with Coral finish An initial watertight layer followed by a second layer with a porous coating make the glove very flexible and give it good grip in dry, wet and oily environments. PVC-coated glove with porous Coral® finish and double coated sleeve. 3.Grainy Finish PVC-coated work gloves with maximum grip for special jobs: chemical or fishing industries, refineries, working with tanks or in contact with water or liquids. Example: 227 CRBI JUBA. PVC glove with cotton support, one grainy layer, 27 cm long. 4.Criss-cross Finish Criss-cross PVC coating gives better grip on both sides. Comfortable and easy to wear Example: HDM7C JUBA. Polyester/acrylic seamless work glove with PVC coating on both sides. 5. Smooth finish: PVC glove with interlock cotton support that gives comfort even at low temperatures. Example: 235. With Actifresh® treatment that blocks unpleasant odours and wipes out bacteria caused by sweat plus Sanitized® treatment to prevent skin irritation. Phthalate-free.  6.Palm dot finish Better grip and abrasion resistance thanks to its PVC dot finish. Example: 5080 JUBA. Latex is a milky-looking substance obtained from cuts made in the Hevea brasiliensis tree that can be found in Africa and southern Asia. Its qualities make it widely sought-after as a coating for work gloves. Its main qualities are: - Highly flexible and elastic - Good grip in dry and wet environments - Excellent resistance to tearing and abrasion - Very solid - Water-resistant, non porous *Latex can cause skin problems among people who are allergic to this substance   Types of latex coating: 1. Rough: Excellent wet and dry grip Example glove: 254. Seamless polyester glove, covered with rough latex. Example glove: G 16800 FISHERMAN. Work glove with rough latex coating on cotton support. It provides firm grip on slippery, dry or wet parts.  2. Sandy: Microfinish: Providing comfort, flexibility and dexterity without foregoing a solid glove, plus an effective grip in any wet or dry situation. Example glove: XA326 ACTIVGRIP. Seamless Nylon® glove with double Microfinish® latex coating. NTF: Recommended for mechanical work in wet and dry conditions. Excellent fit, comfort and dexterity. Example glove: 4404HC POWER CUT. Glove made of Dyneema® fibre mixed with fibreglass, coated in NFT latex across half the back. 3. Vulcanised: Strong and long lasting for demanding work Example glove: 219 RESISTER. Seamless, vulcanised, latex work glove on Kevlar® support 4. ANR: ANR latex technology offers better grip and high resistance to abrasion and scratching. Example glove: H257 FEEL & GRIP. Let's start our specialised guide with this first part focussing on nitrile. The guide will be divided into several instalments looking at different work glove coatings. Definition: Nitrile is an alternative synthetic to natural latex, widely used in manufacturing work gloves. Its classic features include: - Excellent abrasion resistance. - Magnificent performance working with solvents, oil, diesel and animal fats. - Protein-free, it avoids allergy-related skin problems. - Recommended for applications where grip is fundamental in wet and dry environments. - Work gloves can be coated in nitrile on the palm, up to half the back of the hand or completely. - In addition, different nitrile coatings can be watertight, porous, rough and bipolymer, depending on their purpose. The main nitrile glove finishes are listed below: 1. WATERTIGHT FINISH Does not let liquids i Example: AC5-440 JUNIT. Smooth Nitrile. Seamless Nylon® glove with nitrile coating on palm 2. POROUS FINISH: It gives more grip and breathability than the smooth finish Foam Nitrile Widely used in construction, industry, agriculture, general assembly, electronics and gardening. Seamless Nylon® glove with microporous foam nitrile coating on palm Nitrile NFT Work glove with a revolutionary grip in any situation. Good protection for dry or slightly oily situations, the micro-capillaries on its finish help liquid pour out more quickly, giving great grip   Example: 5111 NFT AGILITY. Seamless Nylon® + elastane (spandex) glove with full NFT coating. Nitrile Microfinish Example: AG503 ACTIVGRIP SERIES. Seamless Nylon® glove with full nitrile Microfinish® coating. Microfinish® technology provides great grip thanks to its smooth, flexible composition. Full of thousands of microscopic bubbles that act like suckers and create a vacuum that improves the grip under a wide range of wet and oily conditions. Nitrile dots Example: H5112 AGILITY DOTS. Seamless Nylon® + Lycra® fibre glove with ultralight foam nitrile coating and nitrile dots on palm 3. ROUGH FINISH: Maximum grip and waterproofing on heavy applications. Example: 5114 AGILITY DRY Waves® Rough Nitrile. Nylon® glove with double nitrile covering. The first layer makes it watertight and the second provides grip in wet and oily situations. 4. BIPOLYMER: New technology that provides extreme grip (nitrile + aqueous based polyurethane) It would be better to call it sponge or spongy texture, and it is normally manufactured using nitrile compounds. Its elasticity makes the gloves long-lasting and comfortable although it is less resistant to abrasion than the smooth finish. Example: 4115 AGILITY T-TOUCH. Nylon®/Elastane glove coated in nitrile in combination with water-based polyurethane with T-Touch® technology. We will carry on analysing different work glove finishes next week. When we transfer the need to wear personal protective equipment to the workers there are always those who justify not using it or doing it incorrectly. These are the 7 most common excuses for not using PPE correctly: 1. "If an employee does not want to use protective equipment, what can I do?" If a company decides that a job requires the use of PPE, this is not an option for the worker. Management has every right to demand and insist on its use. Both parties may be seriously harmed otherwise. It is even possible to punish anyone who ignores the indications regarding work safety. 2. "I'm already wearing some protection, I do not need another one". It is not enough to wear some of the assigned protective equipment, you must wear properly all recommended equipment for each job. Wearing one of them, does not exempt from the use of the rest. In addition, we could add that it is as dangerous to be less protected than we should be as being too much. When we use not recommended PPE  for a job we are demanding our body a greater effort. Choosing the right protective equipment increases not only safety but also productivity. The goal is to find PPE that offer the best protection and comfort for the user. 3. "I do not wear gloves because objects slip out of my hands" This excuse would perhaps be valid in the last century. Today there are gloves that, thanks to their ergonomics and coating, offer a spectacular grip of pieces of any size and even in adverse situations (dirt, oils ...) A good example of this is our new Feel & Grip H257. 4. "This task will only take me a couple of minutes, it takes longer to put on the PPE" Maybe it can take a few seconds more, but there is no other option, a work accident can happen at any time with tragic consequences. A single second without protection is enough to suffer a serious accident. 5. "I do not wear gloves because I'm allergic to latex" Health professionals or the food industry who need to wear this type of gloves do not have to worry if they suffer from latex allergy, since there are gloves of this type and for this same use made of other materials such as nitrile, neoprene ou vynil. 6. "Wearing leather gloves is enough in order not to cut myself" Leather gloves are a great choice for many jobs but their cut resistance is not the best. "Cleaning PPE is not necessary" After each working day, employees must perform adequate maintenance of their personal protective equipment. They can only fulfill their purpose if they are in perfect conditions.
